The Rainbow Bazaar is a unique exhibition and marketplace where LGBTIQ+ organizations and community members can book stalls to creatively express their identity and work. The 2024 Rainbow Bazaar was a landmark event, bringing together organizations from the Northern, Eastern, and Central Provinces. It provided an inclusive space for the LGBTIQ+ community and its allies to connect, network, and showcase their work through printed materials, banners, and creative exhibits. Equité played a crucial role in supporting organizations to enhance their visibility and outreach, making the Rainbow Bazaar an essential part of the Sri Lankan Pride celebration.
Every year, Equité extends the Pride celebrations beyond Colombo, hosting events in different parts of Sri Lanka. In 2024, Nuwara Eliya became the heart of the movement with a monumental Pride March. Organized with the support of the District Secretary’s Office of Nuwara Eliya, the march gathered LGBTIQ+ individuals and allies from all districts of Sri Lanka. This event was a historic milestone, demonstrating the strength and unity of the community in the Central Province. It was a bold and colorful statement advocating for equal rights and visibility for the LGBTIQ+ community across the country.
One of the main highlights of the Sri Lankan Pride celebration is the Rainbow Cricket Match. In 2024, this exciting event took place at the Pepiliyana Ground in Colombo. The match provided a space for the LGBTIQ+community to showcase their sportsmanship, talent, and teamwork. It was not only a fun-filled occasion but also a significant step toward promoting inclusivity in sports.
