Humanity for All

Équité is an organization operating in Sri Lanka, focusing on human rights, comprehensive sexuality education, sexual health and reproductive health and rights. We collaborate with the Geneva Human Rights Convention and Sri Lankan government stakeholders across 9 provinces
and 24 districts.

Our partnerships include the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Police, Sri Lanka National Hospital, National STD and AIDS Control Programme, Sri Lanka Family Planning Association, Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, Sri Lanka Prisons Department, State Universities, Family Health Bureau, Health Promotion Bureau, and a consortium of government stakeholders such as the National Institute of Mental Health. We also work with a network of stakeholders involved in policy and legislative matters in Sri Lanka.
“As we travelled to rural areas, we realized that LGBTIQ+ individuals there also faced immense challenges and discrimination. Many don’t understand their rights or even their own identities. The stigma runs so deep that many believe they’re sick, and conversion therapy remains a major issue in the country. By connecting with these young people, we’ve been able to help them see that they’re not alone and that they have rights worth fighting for.”
