Our Work

Equite aims to achieve its mission through various projects and programs. Learn more about our past and ongoing projects here.
01

Advocacy

Equité stands as the leading Sri Lankan organization dedicated to LGBTQ+ rights and broader human rights, working with government and national partners. Together, they drive policy changes and inclusive governance to protect marginalized communities.
02

Research

At Equité, research is the foundation of our advocacy. We conduct in-depth quantitative and qualitative research to understand the lived realities of LGBTIQ+ communities in Sri Lanka. Through our research work, we seek to bridge the gap between experience and policy by documenting legal barriers, systemic discrimination, and the urgent reforms needed. Our reports lay the groundwork for future advocacy and reform.
03

Capacity Building

We regularly conduct Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions designed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of human rights defenders engaged in LGBTIQ+ advocacy. These initiatives equip participants with practical tools in lobbying, public speaking, and grassroots organizing, enhancing their capacity to drive change, amplify community voices, and promote human rights at every level.
04

Media Fellowship
Program

Equité empowers media professionals to create responsible, inclusive, and impactful content on LGBTIQ+ issues. Our cohorts receive in-depth training on showcasing sensitive and controversial topics. At the end of the programme, an expert panel selects a few outstanding projects to receive production funding. The initiative is part of our ongoing effort to shift public narratives, challenge stigma, and amplify underrepresented voices through creativity and storytelling.
05

Community Events

Equité brings people together through vibrant, inclusive events that celebrate and uplift the LGBTIQ+ community. From Rainbow Bazaars to Pride celebrations, our community events are spaces for connection, visibility, and joy. At the heart of these efforts is Sri Lankan Pride, an annual celebration hosted by Equité that honors the resilience and diversity of the LGBTIQ+ community, allies, and organizations across the country.
