Justice should be accessible to all, yet for many within the LGBTIQ+ community in Sri Lanka, it remains an uphill battle. Équité Sri Lanka’s report, Analyzing Justice Needs of the LGBTIQ+ Community Living in Sri Lanka (Version 1.0), seeks to bridge this gap by documenting legal barriers, systemic discrimination, and the urgent reforms needed.
This image, taken during a community consultation, showcases a crucial step in the report’s development—engaging directly with LGBTIQ+ individuals to gather their lived experiences. With participation from 130 individuals across multiple provinces, as well as consultations with legal experts and civil society organizations, this report lays the groundwork for future advocacy and reform. It is a living document, continuously evolving to reflect the realities of those fighting for justice.

The official launch of The Unseen Battle was a landmark occasion, bringing together community members, national stakeholders, and the donors who supported this critical initiative. This image encapsulates the spirit of collaboration, as key figures from diverse sectors came together to acknowledge and address the pressing concerns faced by transgender men in Sri Lanka.
The report serves as both an eye-opener and a call to action, urging policymakers, activists, and allies to work towards an inclusive and equitable society where every individual, regardless of gender identity, is treated with dignity and respect.

In 2023, Équité Sri Lanka took a groundbreaking step in shedding light on the realities of transgender men in the country by publishing The Unseen Battle: A Situation Analysis on the Transgender Male Community in Sri Lanka. This report was developed through an inclusive process, ensuring that voices from within the community were heard and reflected.

This image captures a powerful moment from our community consultation in Kitulgala, where transgender individuals and advocates gathered to discuss their lived experiences, challenges, and aspirations. Their collective insights formed the foundation of the report, reinforcing the need for urgent policy changes and greater societal acceptance.
